Castello is the latest eatery to spread its wings and provide a unique flavour to the residents of Karachi. Owned by the effervescent and energetic Mohammad Ali Merchant, this is an ambitious Italian Restaurant that contains large windows, impressive archways, wooden ceilings and patterned floors. Unlike the ostentatious works one associates with the Roman Era this place is simple and elegant. It harkens back to a large villa in the outskirts of a significant Roman City.
The Golden detail in the cutlery, the hues of dark teal and white in the décor all fuse to present a place of serene and comfortable dining. This combines with the well balanced natural light and foliage to provide a delectable mix of nature and architecture. Armed with an attentive and friendly staff, Castello offers the finest Italian Cuisine in town.
Having been in business for just 3 months, the signature wall pays homage to this place having secured a well healed following already. Once seated, the starters promptly arrived and were to serve as the perfect foil for what was to come. The artichoke and spinach cremoso compliments the Italian salad on offer. As with everything else at Castello, the presentation was superb.
Having downed the starters, it was time to bring on the main course. The intensity of flavours and tastes bore witness to the careful selection of ingredients as well as to their freshness. The main course involves live cooking at what can be considered the crown jewel of Castello: it’s Pasta bar. Connoisseurs choose which ingredients to use in their individualised pasta from the meat to the toppings and the cheese which is then cooked live in front of them by the chefs. For people concerned about the hygiene of their food in restaurants, this is just perfect.
The first bite introduces connoisseurs to a range of tastes from salty and crispy to tangy and savoury. Our plates were laden with Fettuccini in Alfredo Sauce, chicken, sun dried tomatoes, black olives and mushrooms. The sauce wasn’t too thick as with most restaurants attempting it, it was just right. Their Affogato was extremely refreshing, whilst their Pina Colada was heavenly.
Located at Khayaban e Sehar DHA Phase 6, this place has two floors, separate smoker friendly space, plus plenty of room to accommodate family and friends. If this place can maintain this standard in the long run, it will catapult itself into one of the must-go eateries of Karachi.
