Anthony Bourdain, a chef, storyteller and writer died at the age of 61.

CNN confirmed Bourdain’s death on Friday and said the cause of death was suicide.

Mr. Bourdain was found dead on Friday morning in his hotel room at the Le Chambard luxury hotel in Kaysersberg. According to a prosecutor, Christian de Rocquigny, said the cause of death was hanging. “At this stage, we have no reason to suspect foul play,” he said.

CNN, the network said in a statement, “It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague.”

Bourdain was in France working on an upcoming episode of his award-winning CNN series, “Parts Unknown.” His close friend Eric Ripert, the French chef, found Bourdain unresponsive in his hotel room Friday morning.
